Penguin Parade
Each night at sunset see he world’s smallest penguins waddle ashore to their sand dune burrows, with a range of viewing options for visitors. The Penguins Plus viewing platform provides closer viewing of the penguins while rangers provide commentary.

PhillipIsland & Wilsons Promontory
Just 90 minute’s drive from Melbourne, Phillip Island is renowned for its nightly penguin parade, wildlife, rugged surf beaches and motorcycle racing. From the Nobbies, see thousands of fur seals through binoculars, watch koalas up close at the Koala conservation Centre, or tour the Grand Prix motorcycling circuit. Churchill Island, connected by bridge to Phillip Island, is an historic working farm. Wilsons Promontory, or ‘The Prom’, 200km south-east of Melbourne, is the southernmost tip pf the Australian mainland. Almost the entire promontory with its beaches, coastal heath land, fern gullies and diverse flora and fauna, s protected within Wilsons Promontory National Park. MorningtonPeninsula
Mornington Peninsula offers sandy bay and wild ocean beaches, waterfront promenades and coastal panoramas. The bayside towns, including Mornington, Sorrento and Portsea are close to uncrowded beaches, world-class golf courses, regional galleries, gardens and mazes, fruit and berry farms, rolling vineyards and fabulous wineries.

The Westernport and Bass Strait coasts are known for their surfing beaches and the easygoing fishing villages of Hastings and flinders (a favourite stop for a leisurely coffee or lunch to sample the regional food).
From Stoney Point you can catch a ferry to French Island or Phillip Island, while a car ferry operates hourly from Sorrento to and from Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula.

National Parks
Point Nepean National Park protects impressive coastal scenery and the fascinating Point Nepean fortifications dating back to the early 1800s. At Cape Schanck, in the Mornington National Park, there are superb views of the rugged coastline, a lighthouse built in 1859, an information centre and kiosk. Or ferry across to peaceful French Island, one a prison farm, now a wildlife haven with a prolific koala colony and more than 200 species of birds. The best ay to get around is by bicycle. | |
