Royal Botanic Garden Considered the most detailed Botanic garden in Australia. Free guided tours leave the information centre most days at 2pm.
From the Royal Botanic Garden to Yarra Park, surrounding the MCG, it's a short walk over Swan St bridge and through Melbourne Park Tennis Centre.
Nearby are the ornate Fitzroy Gardens and Treasury Gardens. Here you will find a flower-field conservatory, 150-year-old avenue of magnificent elms, Cooks’ Cottage, a carved Fairies Tree and a Model Tudor Village to keep children enthralled. The elegant fountains and rotundas enhance a European feeling.
For a bit more history and culture visit the Carlton Gardens. Here you will find one of Australia’s most important classical buildings the Royal Exhibition Building (1879). Established in 1857, Carlton Gardens are the foremost example of classical garden design in the country, exemplifying the Victorian ideals of order, grace and symmetry. The Carlton Gardens are also home to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX.
